I suddenly realised that one of the main characters of the book was living in the wrong part of Vienna. It’s now crucial to the plot that she finds herself in the Russian Zone when the city is divided amongst the occupying forces. I’d chosen the fifteenth district because there’s a rather interesting apartment block there, which survived the war and so appeared to be a suitable location. But it was part of the French Zone, and that doesn’t help the story at all. Today, therefore, I had to go and find a new home for her and in the rewrite, we’ll see her moving into the second district, just behind the Karmelitermarkt. It means she can walk to the city centre, which is going to be very useful at a later stage.
